Invorio, also called “the gate to Vergante”, is conjoined to Mottarone’s peak by a trail that runs on the ridge of the hills that divide the landscapes of Lake Maggiore from those of Lake Orta. This itinerary covers the first tract of the Dorsale del Vergante (Vergante’s ridge) starting from Invorio and reaching Carpugnino. The path goes through many mounts and crosses many roads that allow it to go down from the ridge towards the towns of Vergante on one side, and towards Agogna’s valley on the other.
One of this path’s stops is mount Barro in Invorio. Here an ancient medieval town is located, closed around the church of Santa Maria Annunziata. The church was probably built on the remains of a castle.
In Barro, every 1st of May, the very ancient festival “della Fiora” (of the flowers, in dialect) is kept, a tradition that dates back to 1493, recalling the exchange of flowers between lovers.
It’s suggested to travel this path setting up with two cars, one in each parking at the start and arrival of the track, easily reachable by the highway’s exits.
