The itinerary starts from Auronzo mountain hut, the building of which began in 1912 and ended only in 1925, with the name “Prince Umberto”. After a fire it was later restored and expanded and got its current name. From the hut there is an amazing sight on the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Croda dei Toni and Misurina lake.
From this point the dirt road begins, which, among the white rocks of the Dolomites, reaches Lavaredo mountain hut, built in 1954.
The itinerary proceeds among mild ups and downs until Cengia lake, from where it climbs steeply until Pian di Cengia mountain hut. This hut, inaugurated in 1965, is the highest in the Dolomites of Sesto. The tract of trail that reaches it has seen harsh clashes between the Italian Alpini and Austro-Hungarian soldiers during the First World War, and some remains of the military emplacements still stand visible today.
The trail proceeds along the Dei Piani lakes where the north face of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo can be admired, reaching Locatelli mountain hut, the building of which began in 1882 by the will of Karl Stemberger. In a few months the hut was completed, with a base section of 4 by 8 meters. It was later destroyed by a grenade during the First World War, rebuilt in 1922 and eventually expanded in 1935.
The itinerary completes passing by the amazing Lang Alm alp at Col Forcellina, crossing the Col di Mezzo and reaching the Auronzo mountain hut.
