The itinerary begins from the oratory of San Bernardo and enters the pine grove that leads to Rio Rasiga. Here the trail winds up in the wood reaching the Paione alp where, just a little above, atop a morainic formation, a series of military forts are present, overlooked by a “command post”. The forts were built to train the alpine troopers of Intra Battalion in the period between the two World Wars.

The set of forts was restored in 2021 by the alpines of Gruppo Protezione Civile of Domodossola and Bognanco Group.

The return trail reaches Arza alp and goes down towards Il Dosso mountain hut where the path in the wood begins (or, alternatively, the road).
