The itinerary, suitable for a hike in MTB or a two-stages trail, twists and turns among the typical landscapes of the hills of Novara, moving along an articulate system of cobblestone mule tracks and dirt roads. The trail crosses four different settings that characterize the area between river Sesia and river Agogna: the inhabited towns with farmhouses and castles, the plantations with vineyards on the hills and the rice fields on the plain, the woods and the wet areas along the river Strona and the creek Rio della Valle, and the zones of “baraggia” that represent a peculiar naturalistic system protected by the Riserva Naturale delle Baragge.

What to see along the trail:

Cavaglio d’Agogna, with its ancient mill and the wide cobblestone mule tracks that spread among woods and vineyards.

The town of Sizzano and the farmhouse Bergamina in Priosa which was a place of important partisan battles of Volante Los.

Fara Novarese, an ancient town, rich in history and curiosities tied mainly to viticulture, like “Settembre Farese” (September of Fara) which, just like the Festival of Grapes in Borgomanero, is a celebration of the harvest in the vineyards.

The medieval castle of Briona, set in a strategic position next to the hill.

The castle of Proh was built by Francesco Sforza as a “place of delights”, unlike the other castles it’s set in the plain, completely isolated.

The medieval castle in Morghengo, heavily reworked in the centuries, was eventually transformed into a noble residence.

The castle of Agnellengo with its peculiar tower of the ‘400, built by the Caccia.

The castle of Barengo, almost completely built in bricks in the ‘300, which had both military and residential functions. This building, along the centuries, was restored, soon after the first World War, by architect Carlo Nigra following the canonical styles of the Middle Age.
