This traverse begins in Riale plain, where the trail towards Furculti alp starts, continuing until Nefelgiù alp, along which the Morasco creek flows.

This first part of climb offers an amazing view on the whole Morasco lake and its dam, built in 1940 by Edison company. The sight goes on along the Riale plain, with its old church built in memory of the elderly Walser town of Morasco, covered in water after the dam was completed. A film about the works on the dam is still available on Archivio Storico Istituto Luce’s site.

The trail follows part of one of the 55 stages of the Grande Traversata delle Alpi (GTA), an very long hiking trail from Swiss Alps to the Mediterranean.

The track clambers on a stone road until the Nefelgiù pass. This part is always quite windy, but the wind disappears once the descent towards lake Vannino and lake Srues begins. Here you can find the Eugenio Margaroli lodge. The dirt road towards Miryam lodge begins here and reaches the Sagersboden chair lift. As an alternative to the lift there is a trail that arrives at Valdo.
We suggest experiencing this traverse by leaving a second car at Valdo, close to the chair lift.
