This ring trail runs around the promontory that gives shelter to the historic town of Orta, that is in the circuit of the most beautiful towns of Italy. The trail starts at Villa Crespi, an historic house, build in 1879 by a well-known textile businessman in love with middle eastern architecture. Down from here the trail reaches the panoramic (and romantic) walk along the lake, with narrow passages through docks, piers, rushes and old houses, until the majestic Villa Motta. The trail proceeds through the characteristic streets of Orta town, reaching the main square with its Broletto and the amazing view on the island of San Giulio.
To get back to the starting point you must follow the road close and above the lake. From here you can climb to the peak of the promontory, visiting the Riserva del Sacro Monte of Orta, Human World Heritage in 2003, with its 20 chapels and 376 human-sized statues in terracotta.
From the church’s parvis you can enjoy an astounding view on lake Orta.
