This trail starts in Villa Lesa locality and goes up through ancient mule tracks and staircases until the town of Comnago, historic town that dominates lake Maggiore from above, offering an amazing view towards Arona and the Rocca di Angera. Leaving the paved road, the trail continues on a track that goes up to Monte Croci: a panoramic terrace from which you can admire the lake Maggiore, its Lombard coast and the lakes of Varese in the distance.
From this point the trail climbs up through some woods towards Calogna, passing by the small church of San Paolo, which stands near a “cup and ring” stone. A cup and ring stone is a man made incision on a rock, made during the Neolithic. These stones are believed to be cups that might be linked to an ancient cult of nature.
A bit ahead the trail meets the paved road again, going down towards Belgirate and offering a wide panoramic view.
