Lake Cavalli, with its turquoise water, is inside Valle Antrona Natural Park. It's an artificial basin, made by a dam built in 1926.
The lake as of today is inside a basin where once were a natural lake, which disappeared because of its erosive work, leaving room for a wide green plain, partially muddy. This became a pasture for horses, donkeys and mules, used to carry goods among the valleys.
The trail starts from Cheggio alp, where you can find the Città di Novara lodge, continues towards Alpe Bisi, with some exposed tracts that can be crossed thanks to steel chains some exposed tracts can be safely crossed thanks to steel chains.
The climb proceeds towards Andolla lodge and the goes on until the Città di Varese bivouac. To complete the ring around the lake you can follow the trail on the bridge above Loranco creek, eventually reaching Fraccia alp.
