These two lakes where once conjoined, forming a large lake-like basin. Once the water pulled back, two distinct lakes were formed.
In Biandronno there’s a link between Comabbio lake’s and Varese lake’s cyclopedonal tracks. This road crosses Barabbia swamp, a natural reserve with a thick vegetation, large rushes and small water ponds. This part of the trails is on a dirt road and gravel.
The ring around Varese lake is partially on secondary municipal roads, not always on close contact with the lake’s shores when it crosses small towns, while the ring around Comabbio lake is on an asphalt road with short passages on gravel.
It crosses Berrini park in Ternate and Corgeno park, with nice passages on wooden bridges and a long boardwalk above the water where, during the blooming season, an expanse of water plants can be seen.
Varese lake, together with Monate lake, is defined by UNESCO as one of the most important “prehistoric stilt houses site of alpine arc”.

WE INFORM THAT THE BOARDWALK ON THE WATER IN THE TOWN OF COMABBIO IS CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE! Therefore a deviation is needed to Via Per Ternate - Via Bernasc - Via Sotto Campagna.
