The history of Sentiero Della Salute (Health trail) is tied firstly to the hydric usage of Valle Anzasca.
In 1929, when Ceppo Morelli dam and Battigio power plant were built, a branch channel was built to carry the water, along a mild slope, to the power plant. The channel is inside a tunnel dug in the mountain and in order to allow inspections and maintenance a trail was built, named “Strà dul Canal” (road of the channel, in dialect).
The trail is halfway on the coast among the cool pine woods facing Anza river, with some sights on Monte Rosa. The particular panorama attracted the attention of some inhabitants of Ceppo Morelli, who fixed a first tract in 2004, calling it “Sentiero della Salute”. Only in 2014, thanks to city halls and local authorities, the whole trail was recovered and named after alpine trooper Luigi Corti.
After reaching Ceppo Morelli the same path can be traveled through again, otherwise the dirt road along Anza river can be taken, crossing some rural villages.
There’s a curious writing on a rocky wall along the trail: “for a healthy life, walk the Sentiero della Salute three times a week”!
