Val Vigezzo, also called “valley of painters”, is the valley of Ossola which has seen the most important thriving of artists and landscape painters and inspired what became famous as “Vigezzo painting”, so much so that a School of Fine Arts was founded in Santa Maria Maggiore.
Val Vigezzo is crossed by the centennial railroad Vigezzina-Centovallina which allows one to admire the polychromos offered by the mountains in this valley during any season, like the famous autumn “foliage”.
Val Vigezzo has towns rich in numerous historic and cultural assets: from Craveggia, the town of chimneys, to Santa Maria Maggiore, the town of chimney sweepers, passing by Re with its majestic Sanctuary, up until Malesco and its Ecomuseum.
