A group of former students of Collegio Rosmini of Stresa was the owner of the Domus Nostra mountain hut at Solcio alp - Monte Cistella.
In this group there was Pietro Crosta, the first president of the CAI section of Gallarate, who proposed his partners to buy the mountain hut to make it available to hikers. In 1947 the hut became property of the CAI section of Gallarate who renovated and inaugurated it in 1948 keeping the name “Domus Nostra”. It was only in 1957 that the mountain hut was eventually named after Pietro Crosta.
The itinerary starts from Foppiano and winds up in the deep pine forest reaching the Sciupa pass, from this point it goes down until Solcio alp where, among the lodges, the typical structure of Crosta mountain hut emerges. The hut is inside the borders of Alpe Veglia and Alpe Devero Natural Park, and can be reached both during summer and winter following different itineraries. It is located along the Alta Via of Valle Divedro, it’s a step of the GTA (Great Travers of Alps) and it’s a point of reception of CAI’s Sentiero Italia (Italy trail).
The itinerary proceeds towards Proso alp reaching, after a narrow pass equipped with chains, the Bocca del Lupo (wolf’s crossing). From this point the trail goes along the crest until Colmine pass where the descent towards Camplero alp and Foppiano begins.
The hut can also be reached starting from Dreuza.
