A group of former students of Collegio Rosmini of Stresa was the owner of the Domus Nostra mountain hut at Solcio alp.
In this group there was Pietro Crosta, the first president of the CAI section of Gallarate, who proposed his partners to buy the mountain hut to make it available to hikers. In 1947 the hut became property of the CAI section of Gallarate who renovated and inaugurated it in 1948 keeping the name “Domus Nostra”. It was only in 1957 that the mountain hut was eventually named after Pietro Crosta.
The itinerary starts from Dreuza and goes up among the beech and chestnut woods. The path crosses the village of Valera and, just a bit further, the ancient pastures of Quartina di Sotto. The San Giovanni creek is crossed next to Solcio alp, where a majestic panorama opens on Pizzo Boni. From this point one can see the hut, which is inside the borders of Alpe Veglia and Alpe Devero Natural Park, is a step of the GTA (Great Travers of Alps) and it’s a point of reception of CAI’s Sentiero Italia (Italy trail).

The hut can also be reached starting from Foppiano.
