In 1945 the subsection of CAI of Somma Lombardo was established, immediately aiming to have a mountain hut in high altitude. The chance happened when the works for the Sabbione dam were completed, and the building enterprises decided to sell the converter. This building was made at 2561 MASL, to supply electric power to the railway that carried, from the nearby cave, the inert materials needed to build the dam. The building was bought and renovated by CAI of Somma Lombardo who inaugurated it as a mountain hut on the 13th of september 1959. As of today, the mountain hut is managed directly by the section’s associates.
The itinerary starts from Morasco, passes by the homonymous lake and climbs up along the valley of Sabbione Alp. By the cable car arrival station, used to carry the goods, the trail goes up towards Somma Lombardo mountain hut, where one can admire the sight of the whole basin of Sabbione lake and Arbola glacier.
